Toby review

3.8 out of 5 stars

Toby is the new kid on the block. It’s a browser extension that helps you organize your tabs on every new page. You can use it in Chrome, Firefox, and Opera. So it’s not a bookmark manager per se, which makes it the odd one out in this list, probably.

Quick view of Toby

To use this tab manager, create a collection and drag any open tabs from the right into a collection. Toby stores your tabs locally on your computer but we recommend creating a Toby account. Hereby, you activate sync and a ton of extra features like sharing. You also get the ability to restor your service, so you’ll never lose a collections or tab again.

In a previous version of this review, we noted that the app wasn’t being actively maintained. We did discover a new update of the extension, however, so I guess that Arthur (the developer) is at it again. Good for him!

Other considerations

While the emphasis still rests on bookmarks, Toby also has a bigger ambition. They don’t like the word Bookmark, it seems. So the developer seems eager to head into Evernote territory. Or Trello, Github, Dropbox. At any rate, it’s not clear why any company should entrust their most precious knowledge resources to this SAAS solution.
