Xmarks will shut down: looking for an alternative?

Unfortunately, the immensely popular bookmark sync service Xmarks will be shut down on May 1st. Or as LogMeIn puts it: retired. Xmarks Sync was acquired by LastPass in 2010. LastPass was subsequently acquired by LogMeIn in 2015. Ever since LastPass bought Xmarks, things started going downhill. No more features were added and the product was basically abandoned. What a shame! On this site, I show you what the Xmarks alternatives are and how to start using them.

Replace Xmarks with an alternative

If you are looking to replace Xmarks with an alternative, then you have come to the right place. I have compiled a list of apps, sites, and services that you can use to replace Xmarks. These services are all excellent replacements. However, most of them are actually cloud-based bookmark managers rather than bookmark synchronizers.

Most popular browsers already have a built-in¬†bookmark synchronizer. But if you’re looking to share your bookmarks between devices and different browsers, you will need something different: cloud-based bookmark managers are the best solution.

Moving to a different service

If you want to start using a different service, then there is a lot of choice. What will be very import for you, is to make sure your bookmarks collections from Xmarks will be available in your new tool as well. Usually this can be done fairly easily by importing the HTML file you exported before. It differs per tool how to do this exactly. Where possible, I will try and add this information to my reviews of the Xmarks alternatives below.
